IFA presents an international 2017/18 pre-season friendly game

IFA, official partner of 1. FC Union Berlin e.V.

As part of the 2017/18 pre-season preparations 1. FC Union Berlin will play Queens Park Rangers, one the English capital’s oldest clubs on Saturday 22nd July 2017. As in previous years Union’s international pre-season friendly is presented by the IFA. The game between 1. FC Union Berlin and QPR, as they are usually abbreviated to, kicks-off at the Alten Försterei stadium at 3.30pm.

Last year’s game saw Union hosting the Dutch Eredivisie team FC Utrecht, this year London’s calling! There is a close connection between Union and QPR as it was here where striker Sebastian Polter was playing before he came to Union in the winter break. QPR finished the 2016/17 season in 18th place of the English Championship. They are also instantly recognisable by their famous traditional blue and white hooped jerseys and nicknamed “The Hoops” whereby they are generally referred to as merely the R’s by their fans.

“In the winter we were in close contact with QPR as we were sorting out Sebastian Polter’s transfer. We are very pleased that we were able to fix a date for the game. I’m sure that we’ll see an exciting duel” says Helmut Schulte, Director of the 1. FC Union Berlin professional team.
“We have a lot of English fans already regularly coming to the AltenFörsterei stadium supporting Union. It is our pleasure to host Queens Park Rangers, one of England’s most famous clubs and excellent pre-season opposition for 1. FC Union” says IFA-Director Jens Heithecker.

The IFA is the world’s most important Trend-Show for consumer electronics and home appliances and is closely associated with 1. FC Union Berlin as a cooperation partner since 2010. This year’s IFA takes place from 1st – 6th September at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds under the Radio Tower.

Tickets for the game will go on sale soon.
