Retailers optimistic about Christmas trade – renewed marked increase in trade visitor numbers – global media event – IFA Summer Garden concerts sold out
Berlin, 5 September 2012 – Berlin is the meeting place of the digital world. From 31 August to 5 September 1,439 exhibitors presented their numerous product debuts on a display area occupying 142,200 sqm (+ 1.4 %). With business concluded exceeding 3.8 billion euros (+3 %) and attendance reaching 240,000 (+1%), the world’s leading trade show for Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances in Berlin achieved record results.

We witnessed full display halls, enthusiastic audiences and visitors, very satisfied exhibitors and an impressive worldwide media response“, said Dr. Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Gesellschaft für Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik (gfu), the organiser of IFA.

The fifth edition of Home Appliances@IFA has successfully taken this tried and tested presentation platform for the home appliances industry another step forward “, said Dr. Reinhard Zinkann, Chairman of the Consumer Electronics Trade Association ZVEI.
International trade visitor numbers rise
The organisers are delighted with the participation of 142.300 (+7%) trade visitors, more than 42.800 (+11%) of whom came from abroad. With these numbers of growth IFA is underlining the global importance for the industry, trade and media.
Global media event
With more than 6,000 journalists at the event, 2,200 of whom were from abroad, this year’s IFA was once again a global media event. In addition to numerous German broadcasters, TV networks from around the world were represented with their news pools at IFA and reported from the Global Broadcasting Center in Hall 6.3. They included Al Jazeera (Qatar), CCTV Channel 2 (China), CCTV Channel 9 (China), Jiangsu TV (China), Servus TV (Austria), TF 1 (France), BFM Business TV (France), France Info (France), La chaîne Techno I Web TV (France), Dubai TV (Dubai), NHK (Japan), TVN 24 (Poland), Polsat News (Poland), Polsat Biznes (Poland), CNN Turkey (Turkey), TRT (Turkey), EBU (Switzerland), ENEX (Luxembourg), AP (UK), Reuters (UK), Bloomberg (Europe, Asia, Australia, the Pacific region and North and South America).
IFA Summer Garden concerts sold out
The atmosphere at the open-air concerts in the IFA Summer Garden was breathtaking and packed with emotion. The entertainment on offer enchanted the audiences of over 25,000 visitors to the IFA concerts. Xavier Naidoo, die Neuen DeutschPoeten and Helge Schneider had the evening crowds dancing in the IFA Summer Garden.
Numerous stars and starlets performing on the stages of exhibitors and as part of the programme of events in the IFA Summer Garden drew enthusiastic audiences, with cooking shows, autograph signing sessions and live music.
IFA 2013, the world’s leading trade show for Consumer Electronics and Home Appliances, will take place from 6 – 11 September of next year.
