Topics of this year’s UX Design Awards Nominees:

Autonomous driving – The individualization of the vehicle
Mobility is undergoing rapid changes. While sharing-models and digital mobility services are expanding into traditional business lines, environmental and traffic requirements are forcing the car industry to adopt new solutions. Autonomous driving and shared mobility are changing the role of vehicles. Dashboards are reduced to essential functions, cockpits are becoming multifunctional and operating elements change according to usage situation or travel mode. Inside the vehicle individualized experiences and sound spaces are developed. See: Continental p. 10 / Daimler p. 21 / Faurecia, achtung! p. 23 / German Autolabs p. 24

Digital Services – Artificial intelligence, big data analysis and blockchain technology are becoming the norm
Mobile and desktop applications are showing a trend towards the reduction to core features. To simplify processes and to address broad user groups, clear graphical user interfaces are combined with simple usage patterns. In an effort to further simplify operations, banking apps provide text-to-transfer features or manage shared payments in the background based on blockchain technology. Financial apps become learning, proactive companions who chat with users. And in order to enhance transport planning, logistics solutions analyze global data flows, intersecting real-time risk forecasting with optimal supply chain planning. See: Charlie AI p. 20 / comdirect p. 21 / Samsung SDS p. 14, 30

Knowledge and Education – Robotics, Augmented Reality and Gamification
From activating young people and providing vocational education and training to self-initiated learning – robotics, digital and networked work environments are promoted through playful applications and augmented reality, as well as a context-aware interaction. Solutions allow children to digitally design aircrafts and to test their flying abilities; interactive learning environments accompany apprentices step-by-step and DIY-kits introduce people from all kinds of different backgrounds to topics such as programming and robotics. Health Care – Relief, error reduction and inclusion through purposive UX
The professional health care sector shows a strong trend towards relieving medical staff and minimizing failure. Sources of error are reduced through clear user interfaces, intuitive user guidance and adaptive system solutions, allowing more time for personal contact between medical staff and patients. Digital solutions not only focus on the treatment of long-term care cases and permanently ill patients, but also increasingly consider their environment by promoting emotional and personal interaction with caregivers and relatives.
